Waterloo is a city in Black Hawk County, Iowa.
Waterloo is the county seat of Black Hawk County, Iowa, United States. The population in 2003 was estimated at 67,054. It was the home of the Sullivan brothers, who were killed during World War II. It is the location of the Tractor Assembly Division & Product Engineering Center of John Deere. Waterloo is also the location of Hawkeye Community College, and the former location of Rath Packing.
Waterloo attracted a large African-American population because of meatpacking and other industries located in the city. In the 1980s Waterloo experienced some friction between the black community and the rest of the city. Many African-Americans in Waterloo reside on the east side of the city.
